Revlon Sale - small haul

Hola beautiful people! So I just got back from the revlon sale just now and I only got a few items. Firstly, earlier on this week I had all but resigned myself to not going to the sale in the first place! Funds just weren't coming in and it didn't look like they would, however at the last minute I was able to get 'a lil sumthin'. Whoo! thankfully! Anyhoo so I got to the sale about 20 minutes before they closed the cashier!!! SO with limited funds and limited time I was able to get only 3 eyeshadows and one blush! All those bargains!! hmmm..sigh! Here's what I bought:

Revlon make a sheen eyeshadow in 'Express'O yourself'
'Olive it up'
'Plum like it hott'

Revlon A floral affair blush in 'Peachy Keen'

I am really disappointed that I wasn't able to get more but sometimes that's just the way the cookie crumbles! Sorry I don't have swatches to show you but my camera sucks a$%! I'll post some pics of the products soon!

I will do a review on them as soon I have experienced them all. As always thanks for reading and all the support. Look out for youtube videos coming soon. Those of you who have not yet subsribed go to the link in the side bar-------------------->

My new vice

Yes! I have succumbed to the wanton pleasures of the flesh! Get your mind out of the gutter right now! The vice that I speak of is none other than....FALSIES!! Omg! I love love love false eyelahes! I used to think getting them on was some totally complicated process, oh boy was I wrong! Putting them on is sooo easy, I love it!

Catogorized as a cosmetic accessory, false eyelashes, according to makeup.lovetoknow.com were invented by American movie director D.W. Griffith in 1916. He wanted his leading lady to have long lashes that graced her cheeks whenever she looked down thoughtfully. Thus the first pair of fabulous falsie were created using human hair and gauze!

There are two types of false eyelashes most commonly used, strip eyelashes which can give natural yet dramatic look and individuals which can be tailored to suit the needs of the look being achieved. Strips are definitely quicker and easier to apply and can turn a blah face into a glam face. Indivduals on the other hand are more like weave strips for the hair, they can be added to give body to the lashes while maintaining the natural look of the clients lashes. Individuals can also take the face from blah to glam but with a little extra effort and some serious application technique.

I first ventured into the world of falsies this past Carnival. Even though I didnt play mas I was adamant that I would put together a banging makeup look for the road and it had to include lashes. So I armed myself with all the knowledge that youtube tutorials had to offer, preparing some three weeks in advance for just how spectacular I wanted it to be! (the look is featured in my photos in the sidebar) The experience was daunting to say the least. But after all the preparation I was not going to fail! So I grabbed my Wonderful World $15.00 lashes with my $10.00 mini glue and got to work, here's how you do it:

1. Your first step to false eyelash application is taken long before the glue dries. You first have to select the type of lashes you would like to use and the desired look you would like to achieve. Alot of the time individuals with smaller facial features like myself may have to purchase regular lashes and tailor them to suit, by trimming them. Be sure however, to trim from the outer lashes i.e the longest hairs on the strip.

2. Have everything ready. Be sure to have your tools handy before you begin, these may include a tweezer, scissors for trimming and a small flat container for placing glue.

3. Remove the strips from the packing carefully. Most strips and individuals come lightly glued to their packaging in order to keep their shape.

4. Shape the lashes. For strip lashes it is important to manipulate them to the shape of the eyes. To do this it is recommended that you hold the lash at both ends and bend it in the shape of a horse shoe. Also st this time the lash is measured against the eye and cut to the desired length.

5. The glue is then applied to the strip. It is recommended that a small amoount of glue be placed on a clean, flat, smooth surface so that it is easily accesible. The strip is then dipped gently in the glue making sure glue is applied to both ends of the strip.

6. Wait! Ok now you wait till the glue dries a little. Wait till it gets a little tacky or sticky, then you know its ready to be applied.

7. Ready, Aim, Fire. Ok now the lash is ready for application, take your time line it up right and stick! You want to get the falsies as close as possible to your natural lashes so you're sticking them at your lash line just where you apply your eyeliner. Its a good idea to actually apply some eyeliner before putting on the lashes so that any spaces can be camoflaged.

8. Lastly apply some mascara to your falsies. The small brush of the mascara wand should gently comb out the strands and also mesh your natural lash with the falsies.

For individual eyelash application you follow the same steps. You shouldn't need to trim them because they come in different lengths. The only real difference is where they are applied which is under your lashes, close to you upper lid waterline, instead of above. Oh and they require one more tool....PATIENCE! lol!

Whoo! I know it looks like a lot eight whole steps but I promise you, with the proper tools and the some practice it won't take you as long as it took me to write this post!

Happy stickin'!

Weekly Dose 3: ANTM Pill

Ok for the longest while the poll (check it in the sidebar) has only three votes!! Come on people HAVE YOUR SAY! Is it that none of the choices tickle your fancy?? Is there some other look that you would like to see attempted? I'm willing to put in the work to do the look so I can tell you guys the easiest way to achieve it! So hit me up let me know what's up! Cool?

Also I missed ANTM this week, Wednesday night, I was super sleepy! I caught it on Sunday but I missed the end! So I don't know who went home!! damn! Somebody hit me up! Anyhoo, from what i saw this week was a Carmen Miranda themed photo shoot. Its a nice them but the models either were too much into the character or not quite there. Allison had a good week for a change, she actually smiled in her photo! shocking!!

As far as the makeup and fashion this week the costumes were very bright and really colourful with the fruit basket as the headpiece. However I half expected the makeup to be just as bright and to me it wasn't...so I was a little disappointed but not mare than not knowing who went home!! I wanna know!!...huh lets see if its on you tube yet! Ciao bellas!

Product Review

Cosmetic Brand: Sacha Cosmetics

Product Name: Cream to Powder Foundation

Personal Shade: Perfect Spice

Price:$TT34.99 ($US5.56)

Available at: sacha.com, Sacha Image Centers, Pennywise Cosmetics( nationwide)

I've been using this foundation about 2 years now, since I've taken a real interest in the makeup thing. I love it! I find that it goes on very well with excellent coverage. It comes in a mirrored compact with a small square sponge applicator. I like that the sponge has its own storage compartment under the foundation pan. This way the sponge doesn't pick up extra product when not in use.

What I also like that you dont need to apply alot on your face and it also doesnt look like your are wearing makeup. Some of the other brands that I have tried over the years have that feature to them, they tend to "look" like you're is wearing tons of makeup! Sacha also features foundation for a variety of dark skin tones, so that its likely that you will find a shade for you.

Makeup Review Series: Sacha Cosmetics.

Since it is my intention to feature products and reviews of products on this here blog, I decided to go right ahead and jump in the deep end. Plus I just needed to get my mind off of all theSummit mumbo jumbo! Ok so here goes without further ado, I commence my Makeup Review Series featuring all the brands that have made some sort of contact with my face since May 2008. On my youtube channel I have a short video of my makeup collection (at that time, it has been updated since then) feel free to check it out.

For those of you who are my subscribers on youtube, you will know that my makeup of choice by
far is Sacha Cosmetics. By 'choice' I mean a number of things. Firstly, where I live in Trinidad and Tobago (2 islands 1 country) all the top of the line makeup brands as well as the cheaper stuff is readily available so that we have alot to choose from and because of this allowed to choose wisely. I have chosen Sacha as my favorite brand to use beacuse it is cheap, reliable and readily available. I use most of their products: foundation, eyeshadow, blush and liquid eyeliner. I will be doing reviews on these products seperately. According to their website, Sacha boasts "Makeup for Exotic Skin Tones" with "yellow based foundations" that "will fit like a second skin". They have received such accalades as the official cosmetics of the 1999 Miss Universe pageant and the 2000 and 2001 Miss USA Pageants.

Since I first started wearing makeup in my early teens, I have worn sacha cosmetics. Since then
I have tried a number of other brands but have always gone back to my beloved Sacha. In my opinion, this cosmetic line is second to none! Their eyeshadows are extremely pigmented, their foundations over excellent coverage and truely cater to every skin tone under the Caribbean Sun. The line caters to every type of makeup lover or none lover as the case maybe, from neutrals to bright eyepopping carnival favourites. Their products are available for purchase online and they do ship Internationally.

Locally, their products are available at Pennywise Cosmetic Stores nationwide. They also have their own Sacha Stores or Image Centres in West Mall, Gulf City Mall and Wrightson Road PoS, similar to the popular MAC stores in the US. At the Sacha Stores items are higher priced, but all their products are available there. I have been to an Image Centre once and it seems to be tailored to suit the makeup fanatic! Its a flurry of colours and products on display urging you to buy just about one of everything! Available at the Images Centres are the professional pallettes,
professional brushes and also the smaller consumer pallettes. The Image Centres are manned by company trained professionals who are friendly courteous and know their stuff! One look at me and she could tell me what products to buy for a complete makeup look! They themselves have their faces well done so that the products are on a live display and flawlessly done too! Unlike other brands though Sacha does not have its own line of fake eyelashes. This is one product I would love to see added to its top of the line arsenal.

The second installment of my Makeup Review Series will feature the Sacha Cosmetics Cream to Powder Foundation.

Weekly dose 2: ANTM pill

heyyy! lol! so we back again with another dosage of ANTM medicine! Lord knows I've been illin'! Last nights show was good...just good, not too outstanding. The models had good days an d bad days, last night was London's bad day! Poor thing! She gained weight! oh no! Now we know this issue opens up a whole new can of worms, but we will try to remain focused! Too bad for London last nights photo shoot had the models in an outfit that was not at all becoming on her new figure. Don't get me wrong! The girl is stunning! Her face, her eyes are absolutely gorgeous! However as a model you are required to remain at a certain standard ( and I'm just spit balling here because I'm not now nor I have I ever been a model...my figure definitely wouldn't permit it!). Then there is the standard of the show to consider. The creators of the show have sought to build in into a brand, a gold standard for the modeling world...a "fat" model?! how dare she! Like Jay Manuel emphasized she is too petite to be considered plus size. And there it was with those words her faith was all but sealed. Had she actually been taken to Brazil (Brazil bitches ahhh!) with the other girls I for one would have been extremely shocked. The show is not in the least predictable but that would have been a shocker!
The makeup as always was stunning! Last night's shoot featured what looked to be a sexy sultry yet bold smokey eye in black. To me this sort of look really draws attention to the eye, the face and as such the girls really had to bring it to match their face with what their bodies had to do to exhibit the theme of the photo - "crazed fan tied up in microphone wire"(...who comes up with this stuff??) The smokey eye is just about the easiest, simplest most achievable makeup. It can be made 'most dramatic' with a stunning lip or left to be a dramatic stand alone with a matte/neutral lip. Visit my youtube channel (link is in the right side bar) to view my video on how to achieve a smokey eye and check out the educational playlist for videos from other youtubers.

I Believe...

I saw this in a note from one of my friends on facebook, just wanted to share it with you.

That just because two people argue,
doesn't mean they don't love each other.
And just because they don't argue,
doesn't mean they do love each other.

I Believe...
That sometimes when I'm angry I have the right to be angry,
but that doesn't give me the right to be cruel.

I Believe...
That we don't have to change friends if
we understand that friends change.

I Believe...
That no matter how good a friend is, they're going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.

I Believe....
That true friendship continues to grow, even over the longest distance.

Same goes for true love.

I Believe...
That you can do something in an instant
that will give you heartache for life.

I Believe...
That it's taking me a long time
to become the person I want to be.

I Believe...
That you should always leave loved ones with
loving words. It may be the last time you see them.

I Believe...
That you can keep going long after you think you can't.

I Believe....
That we are responsible for what
we do, no matter how we feel.

I Believe....
That either you control your attitude or it controls you.

I Believe....
That heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.

I Believe....
That money is a lousy way of keeping score.

I Believe..
That my best friend and I can do anything, or nothing, and have the best time.

I Believe...
That sometimes the people you expect to kick you When you're down, will be the ones to help you get back up.

I Believe...
That maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you've had, and what you've learned from them.....and less to do with how many birthdays you've celebrated.

I Believe...
That it isn't always enough to be forgiven by others.

Sometimes, you have to learn to forgive yourself.

I Believe...
That no matter how bad your heart is broken the world doesn't stop for your grief.

I Believe...
That our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are,
but we are responsible for who we become.

I Believe...
That you shouldn't be so eager to find
out a secret. It could change your life Forever.

I Believe...
Two people can look at the exact same
thing and see something totally different.

I Believe...
That your life can be changed in a matter of
hours by people who don't even know you.

I Believe...
That even when you think you have no more to give, if
a friend cries out to you........you will find the strength to help.

I Believe...
That credentials on the wall do not make you a decent human being.

I Believe...
That the people you care about most in life are taken from you too soon.

I Believe...
That you should send this to all of the people that you believe in. I just did.

The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;
They just make the most of everything.

Thank you God for all the wonderful people who help us
throughout this journey called Life..

ANTM pill

Hey Ladies!
So I'm having my weekly dose of ANTM!(Americas Next Top Model) Besides all the drama of having 10+ females in the same house, its a good way to get an insight into the whole modelling, fashion and makeup industry. That show exposes you to every aspect of "the business". This week the girls are doing their Cover Girl ads, so we get to see their newest product being advertised and used on the models. This is good to see because we can sorta glimpse how the foundation (their new mineral foundation) looks on vary skin tones as applied by professionals! During the show they also run ads of the newest products already available for purchase. They showed us the former winner McKey having her makeup done by the shows head makeup artist...whose name has escaped me right now! Anyhoo! he applies the most electric blue eyeshadow I've ever seen! GORGEOUS! It was a single blue CoverGirl eyeshadow...doing some research to get the name right now...
Watching this show has been truely beneficial to me in the past, helping to fuel my passion and inspo! Oh! if only I could work on those models! AHHH! I'm gonna get there!
So check out Antm! you'll be hip to all the latest makeup an fashion trends in no time!
